Shots from today. Too muggy to do much.

that should look very nice when its complete
what livery are you planning on finishing the set off
what type of tender are you adding to the locomotive

Re: My models (some LNER)
This one - looking more like a pseudo-Duchess than expected - should be finished in LNER loco green in a fashion similar to 'Cock O' The North' (black smokebox surround and inside of deflectors), with black valances and running plate (similar to the green A4's) and pulling an A3-type tender (one of the RailRoad range ones picked up from ebay).
The cab is going to be fitted out with the backhead from the donor shell (60022), with teak-ish flooring and woodpecker green sides - hence the chosen name (so far) of 'Warspite'.
I shall attempt the white and black lining for the boiler bands and cab edges to match the tender, but I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try the red lining around the skirt at this stage.
Assuming the wheels on the chassis I've ordered are the correct shade, the idea is to line out the centres to match the boiler, but that is only an idea until I receive the goods, as they say.
In other news, the backhead for 'Leader' is coming along - I may not have a reversing wheel yet, but at least I have the braking handle. The tender just needs a shelf putting in and coal applying, and I consider it near enough complete.

Re: My models (some LNER)
Been slightly busy this morning (up at 5 without my alarm bizarrely). Backhead fitted in cab of 'Leader', and first coat of green brushed onto 'Warspite'. Base coat was Humbrol 64 - very thinned in tin, bit worried about that - with top coat from the Railcolour range introduced by Hornby through Humbrol.

Re: My models (some LNER)
Hang on, aren't you gonna sand boiler the join down?
EDIT: Valances look to need a bit of sanding too

Re: My models (some LNER)
The boiler join will be sanded down, if only to take the roughness from the paper fill (more leftover watercolour). Then, the plan is to fit a strip up the join to form a cover for what would be ACFI pumps and pipes - have covers on both sides for twice the number, but significantly smaller pumps than those fitted to 2001 originally. The hump would be left, but should blend in with the rest of the additional structure.

Have you tried sourcing another spare body to cut and splice? Very cheap one on ebay right now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/00-Hornby-Spa ... 4ab91643a2

Re: My models (some LNER)
I'm trying to give up on ebay for the time being, once I get all of my parts for these two, and chassis fashioned for future developments. Some of the bids are just plain daft, but if people are willing to pay then they must be worth it to them. Tried to get hold of 6 Gresley Pacific leading bogies with brackets - bidding got silly for what they are with seven days left on the bidding; must be more about the rarity of the brackets as spares, rather than the actual assemblies.
With what I have planned for the 4-8-2, it should look the part when it is finished - still not sure about cutting out the valances or at least trimming them up to pseudo-A4.
On another note, I got looking in my dad's RCTS green 'uns, specifically 10A, and had a good look at the proposed express engines. Looks like the 4-8-2's and 4-8-4's from 1946 can all share the same body/chassis, whichever way they are built. The designs substitute the Cartazzi for a proper bogie from one design to the next.
Also found the proposed C1 streamlined rebuild. Now that got me thinking...

Ay up!
That C1 would have been a visual disaster, even worse than the B17s!
Like the 4-8-2 though.

Re: My models (some LNER)
Donor chassis arrived today, and have already been broken down into constituent parts. Of the four donors, I can probably make two runners with rods, but not pistons (4-8-2 and 4-4-2). None of the valve gear was salvageable unfortunately. Oh well, have to dive into the wonders of cyberspace and see what is available.

Okay, on with the 4-8-2 chassis. Pictures below show modification up to trying to push it along. Need to come back to it with a fresh set of eyes tomorrow.

Re: My models (some LNER)
My thoughts exactly on the proposed C1, Was it Ernie Wise that used to go on about short, fat, hairy legs. I think thats a good description for the loco.Blink Bonny wrote:Ay up!

BTW in another post you mentioned a Brit without deflectors ISTR Triang produced a train set with that very loco for sale through a catalogue company either Kays or Littlewoods.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Re: My models (some LNER)
Today's progress for 'Warspite' and recent work on 'Leader'. Enjoy.
Trouble with motion seizing up was found to be the connecting rods on both sides clashing with the slidebars. Rectified by careful tweaking and changing the cylinder block to A4 pattern from A3 to fit between original bodywork.
Body is sitting slightly high to clear the driven 3rd axle - BIG lump of plastic inside at this point, but it does clear the motor, so not too fussed.
