I survived the weekend - it was quite pleasant in fact.
A couple of recent comments made in York Carriage Works (Dave's "enhanced" MJT masterpiece thread) have reminded me that I'm overdue for posting some evidence of my own model making, and as luck would have it I've actually done some today. It seemed a better plan than watching it rain, sulking about having to go back to the hated professional grindstone tomorrow, or getting involved in any bickering about rumours of defects in certain loco kits
The GC bogie coal wagon body is now fully pimply. Some of the embossed rivets have sunk back due to action of the solvent (plus gentle pressing where necessary) used to stick the rivetted overlays in place. A light coat of primer has revealed the areas that will "do" as they are, and those that will not! The worst areas will get remedial treatment in due course in the form of either new embosssed strips or tiny dots of PVA. I've slightly simplified the complex lower corners of the body (the ends of the headstocks) in the interests of having a shape that I may be able to cast properly in resin and remove from the mould without damage to casting or mould. Buffers, brake pipes, trussing, brake cylinders, brake rods and the lower cantilevers for the body will all have to go on after casting of basic bodies, but I'll obviously do a test run on this master before I cast any replicas. It is too low on the bogies at present as I simply dropped it onto these to get a reasonable set of pictures.

I agree with the statements about professional grindstones - but they do pay for our hobbies - and the kit 'bashing' that has been going on - personally, if a kit is not intended for a certain application, bitching about it will not solve the problem the individual has caused in the first place.

Well here's the wagon raised up on its bogies to achieve something like 14.5mm buffer height. It might be a touch too high actually, but at least the bogies now pivot properly as the wheels clear the central girder! I've also temporarily taped in place some basic brass trussing, and have dry-fitted a couple of buffers. Short of going for some expensive, fully sprung, turned-brass-socketed LNWR Spencer carriage buffers, the best approximation I could find in Andrew Hartshorne's range were some non-sprung NB Spencer wagon buffers whose heads were too small. I've changed the heads to 16", which was a bit of a pain to do, and even now the bases are the wrong shape, so the final choice of buffers is by no means fixed.

Thanks for the your comment...but master piece is a bit too far.
Glad you enjoyed your break, I'm looking forward to lots of interesting future projects and the conclusion of this wagon. How about a NER bogie steel hopper next.
