Green Mk 1s in Scotland?
I seem to have a vague memory of having seen a rake of green Mk1s in Scotland either in Edinburgh Waverley or Glasgow Central sometime in the early 1960s - am I right or could it have been sometime when I was in the Midlands at Birmingham or Stafford?

Its highly likely. After the electrification of the Southern a lot of Mk1s were displaced northwards.
As for regular services from the Southern, there was certainly a Bournemouth - Newcastle service which had an ER set and an SR one.

Vacuum braked,steam heated green Mk1s (and some Bulleids) were sent north in exchange for air braked,electric heated vehicles.

I often saw the odd green MK1 in coach rakes crossing the Royal Border Bridge early to mid 1960s.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

My recollection was that the Southern sent stock north to release Mk1s for conversion to the 4REPs & 4TCs required for Bournemouth electrification. I suspect it was rapidly replaced by the new build MkII stock that came out in the late 60s

Quite a regular sight north of the border from 1965. Some appear to have still been about on special work in 1970 but I doubt they survived beyond the year end. I've recently seen on in an EET4-hauled formation at Whitrope in 1968, marshalled with maroon and blue/grey coaches. Quite eye catching!

Yes indeed. A lot of green Mk1s found themselves on tains in and out of Glasgow Central from the mid 1960s onwards. I've a photo somewhere which I'll look out.

I shall look forward to seeing those! Is the perception that they were widespread? As yet, most images I see of that period haven't really shown that many. It would be interesting to get any information as to numbers, deployment and relevant dates. I understand a number of Bullieds also appeared with some reportedly receiving maroon paint.

Don't ask me where it was, or the variant, because it was a long time ago, and I didn't make any notes but I can confirm having seen a Bulleid coach in lined maroon.

I certainly remember travelling in a maroon Bullied open second sometime in the mid 1960s I think. There were a few around at that time and at least one in the Glasgow-Dundee formations.

It was open third 1482 which had become a mess room at Bellahouston Carriage Sheds. It was discovered by the SRPS who arranged a swap with the Caledonian Railway Coach then in the possession of the Bluebell Railway. It ran in maroon until Easter 1973 and then received a heavy overhaul re-entering service in 1976.

I note that Bachmann's Mk1s and Bullied Coaches are finished in two different shades of green in BR livery. Something is suspect here as I thought that the BR green for coaches was always the same colour. Can anybody advise?
