Thanks for posting this link as it shows that the question I posed to start this thread about Hawkshead siding has at least been partially answered in that it was still there in 1946. Whether it was still in use then is, of course, another matter, as is the date of the siding being removed.StevieG wrote:The last page (No.15) of this MoT Report - http://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/docume ... rs1946.pdf - into the 1946 Potters Bar collision, fortunately has an extensive plan of the signalling over the large area from Greenwood to Marshmoor (+ a few parts of Redhall), including the Hawkshead Siding.
Some of the signalling we have mentioned is shown, including R4 and R9, and the Down Fast M28 at Hawkshead being a semaphore, but thanks to later alterations (including the later appearance of the UF Outer Distant for Marshmoor 9), a good part of the detailed arrangements shown here had changed by the late 1960s.

Correct, Micky. Even in our time I can remember older p.way blokes talking about 'the Marshmoor roll'Micky wrote: it said that the Gresley V2s were ''prone to come off the road'' at this spot in past steam days?

Sorry to have just noticed (a year late) that I didn't get around to commenting on this photo.thesignalman wrote:Here is the picture of the interior of Red Hall I mentioned:Micky wrote:Nice one John, if you havan't got anything of particular interest on a s/box on the G.N.R. The signalman is Les Pawson, mentioned amongst the many previous posts in this thread.
The unclear words on the water can, that are clear on the original print from Les, (plus speculating on the remainder), are :
......."DRINKING W(ATER)"
."EMPTY TO BROO(KMANS PARK)"
.."FULL TO REDHA(LL)".
Interesting to see this version of the location's name (which is one of those qouted differently in different sources) : [ Redhall versus Red Hall ].
