G'Day Gents

I remember the day very well, but cannot for the life of me remember if Peterborough (South Aust) turntable had triple gauge, I'll have to dig out some photo's I took on the day, pretty sure Gladstone had a triple T.T.

In that case, it must have been 'fun' for the crews of certain daily pickup goods trains in Lincolnshire in the 1960s and early 1970s. Some of those workings were between 15 and 20 miles each way.

Although in the case of the Spalding to Billingborough pickup in the 1960s, the progress of the train was so slow that I gather a relief crew had to be sent to Billingborough to take the train back in the afternoon.

The journey (via a reversal at Bourne) was 18.5 miles, which was booked to take 4 hours and 30 minutes. Just my kind of journey ;)

Can't remember the first steam loco I cabed but my first trip out on a loco was on 60800 at the Moors when I started as a cleaner.

A W.D.Austerity in Kiveton Park Station somtime during the 39/45 war, whilst it was waiting for a clear section to Brancliffe where my pals dad was signalman.
The driver asked if we wanted to ride down to there with them and so we did and walked back up the towpath of the Chesterfield canal with his dad when he finished work at 10 p.m.
Good job it was a moonlight night

Hi silverfox.
Hope you don't mind too much, but just for the sake of historical clarity for future readers (who knows? - all our burblings herein may be around for a long time!),
did a 395 'Javelin' really travel from Waterloo to North Pole, or might that have been a 'Eurostar' (Class 373)? [ Still very much a 'feather in the cap' trip! ]

My first cab ride was a humble Class 08 from the closed Pallion station to Deptford Junction then down to Sunderland South Dock in 1977. Not exactly Mallard but memorable!
