G'Day Gents

I may have the LNER in my blood, but I wouldn't mind taking one of them for a belt around my very own garden railway......if I had one

Its interesting to speculate "what if" he had spent the money the models cost to commission on buying actual examples of LNER locomotives which no longer exist, such as a V3?

Prices are now listed. £140k for the Duchess (£170k including the auctioneers' premium) - on a rough calculation about the new-build cost of 10 (12) of the class in the 1930s!

Wow! Serious bucks!

Auctioneer's premium is pretty steep too. My own silly fault, but I once, and it won't happen again, got caught out when I bought at a Vectis auction.

Actually, no. It's in pristine condition, and seems to have been well cared-for even long after Mr. Salem's death.

I wonder if any of the bidders had any thoughts about trying to keep the entire collection in one piece. If nothing else, it demonstrates that the money is out there.

Now, here's a thought: were any of the bidders members of this Forum or any other railway modelling forum that we know of?

When I said restoration, I meant rubber parts etc that degrade over time, regardless of use.
