Locoshed Index Found

The usual address for the Index, an invaluable research tool, now reports an error 504.

Fortunately, I have found an address on a web archive site that gives access to the index.

Many of the pages are there, but a few are missing (I hit three or four, just by exploring the site structure).

Is it a worthwhile job getting the allocation data hosted on this site? I would probably choose to implement it with a proper database. That is more work, but I could allow a couple of people help to maintain it (and enter the data).
The missing data would have to be entered manually, but it might be possible to import some from the above archive using a script or two.

It may be possible to find a way of adding additional years. I have a reprinted ABC of LNER locomotives from 1943, but this is not a locoshed book and there are no allocations in it. Does any body know when the Locoshed books started?

Of less interest to me are the allocations after 1967, but I do happen have a Motive Power Pocket Book by Platform 5 Publications with allocations for 1979. The only steam locos are 7,8 and 9.

I have often wished for a fully searchable database of steam loco allocations, but because of the amount of work involved trawling through the pages of magazines such as RO or TI, have always baulked at the idea of producing one myself.

But, to answer your question, yes it would be very worthwhile.

On the subject of allocations.
Is there anywhere an allocation list for all the other vehicles likely to be found around an engine shed or works.
E.g. Breakdown equipment, Snowploughs etc

Books on breakdown cranes will give details of allocations and their associated vehicles.

Luigin compiled his Index from the ABC Locoshed books which just listed loco numbers and shed codes for the relevant years. These came out every six months in the 50s and 60s.

They are now published bound into reprints of the ABC Combined volumes.

Rapid progress has been made by Kenton on the RMWeb and the Locoshed index has almost completely been recreated using correspondents' stored data. He is talking about adding pre-nationalisation information as well, so if you have anything that could be added, please contact him through the site:
