Re: My W1 build
time for an update and to bring you all upto date
having borrowed my brothers airbrush, I was able to seal the decals I had applied and and all the final details I had sitting to the side
buffers to the nose, whistle, safety valves, cab doors, cab fall plate, screw link coupling, vac pipe and to fit the correct wheels to the rear truck to list a few
and a line up with one of my A4's
so thats you upto date, one more detail to add, but will keep that quiet until the big unvieling.....
thx for looking
Brian

Re: My W1 build
Well done Mercator II and thanks for sharing!
The Dean Sidings guy could have done with your model on his stand at the NEC last November. The paint finish on his display models, some of which were being offered as RTR, was not a patch on yours!
Trying to guess what the big surprise is. The loco looks so finished. I'm going to guess that either you are going to give it a name or a second tender! What's the prize for getting it right?

I did see his offering when I brought the kit, badly brush painted, but as I am taking it to Warley this year for the MRF members met up, I will also pop along to him to show him
as for the suprise...see next post

Re: My W1 build
this post completes the project, thanks to all who have supported it and posted replies
so on to the suprise, 2002 EarlMarischal you are almost right, I plan to give her 'A' name was so close....
so without any delay, I present you with
and before anyone jumps on me, here is the logic hehind my naming
'alothough the W1 never actually ran with any names, both Doncaster and Darlington works had a set of plates made for her, BRITISH ENTERPRIZE by Darlington and PEGASUS by Doncaster
(info found in the publication 'Yeadon Book on A4's/W1 page 89)
so as I couldn't decide on which name to give her, I opted for both, as you can see both sides at the same time
to finish with, here are a few shots of her on my layout Castle Abbeydale on the viaduct
so now its time for my next projects, two to run side by side, again LNER based, firstly a re-naming of a loco with a re-livery and 2002EM you must of read my mind, a water tender to go with it. This has been sat on the shelf for about four years waiting for me to get round to it, so its time I actually did it!!!
thanks again guys, I am very happy with how this loco has come out and cant wait to run here on my layout with some teaks behind her

British Enterprise, not Enterprize. This from the RCTS volume and the Haresnape book on Gresley locos.
Incredible build all the same. Out of curiosity, what is the load limit of your 10000?

Anything weird or unusual will catch my interest, be it an express or locomotive
I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

Re: My W1 build
Great fun mercator! It's a real pity no: 10000 wasn't named, but then perhaps she didn't need to be, when everyone knew she was "hush hush".
It's interesting to read the RCTS 6C book on the rebuilt W1 especially with regard to her popularity with the crews despite the distance from firehole to shovelling plate.
One thing I didn't realise was the fact that her coupled wheels and motion were illuminated at night - perhaps that's where the A1 Trust got the idea from for Tornado which has the same feature.
Anyway, it's great to see another model of a unique locomotive!

Re: My W1 build
An interesting question there regarding the spelling used on the plates. Are they proprietary ones or custom made? Is there surviving proof of the spelling that was used on the originals? I gather that contrary to what often seems to be assumed about it being some sort of Americanism, the Oxford Dictionary gives (in its older versions at least) "ize" as the more proper English spelling of words with the ise/ize ending.
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Yes they are from 247, he already had them on his list of avalible plates when I rang him up last year to enquire about having them custom made
