That Perfect shot? - and NRM 18-19/02/12
With two hours yesterday and three today to potter around the NRM I took quite a few photos, 322 to be exact with about 50 of Britannia
After picking through the whole lot this was my favourite, taken from about 60ft away between the Great Hall's support columns: What do you chaps consider to be your perfect shots? I'm sure they will far outweigh mine

Very nice
It was Wizard week so there were kids running around EVERYWHERE, thus this shot took ages to get:

Re: That Perfect shot?
I'd say they're all pretty much perfect shots - enjoyed them all. What gear are you using, and did you do any post processing on them? I take it you had a tripod or one of those 'gorilla pod' thingies. Anyway, you've got a good 'eye'.
BB. Thanks for that link. I searched LNER and 275 pics are listed.

Re: That Perfect shot?
I'm glad you like them
The camera is a Fujifilm finepix S4000, without a tripod and with the standard lens.
I only post process to brighten a piccie up if I think the picture is too dark, or to crop people out of the corners and sides of pictures.
My method is rather simple:
Step 1: find a spot, check the angle
Step 2: make sure there is good lighting and no streaks of light
Step 3: Wait for the crowd and passers by to b####r off
Step 4: Hold the camera steady, seize the moment and take the shot
If it isn't possible to get a completely clear shot, I settle for photos like this, which has been cropped (I hate prams/buggies):

G'Day Gents
Some good pictures there Blackout, 2 points of interest, the casing on the Q1, looks well used (original ! ) and the bench seat next to the Q1, gives the impression that the loco has four coupling rods

In the case of bulleid pacifics and old casings, 34051 is still sat where it was in October and apart from cleaning, nothing has happened. City of Truro is also in the works having boiler repairs:

AY up!
Looks like 34051's been revarnished since last I saw her. She looked very down at heel.
Love the casing on the Q1 and I had to look twice to see the bench! Pity about the Rubbish between the Q1 and 2500. Still, it is after the LNWR man made it steam!

Re: That Perfect shot? - and NRM 18-19/02/12
Oddly enough, I was there myself yesterday - wonder if I passed by blackout60800 without knowing it?
Can't help thinking 'Winston Churchill' could be put in a better position, given it's historic importance.
Still, it was lovely to see 'Mallard' again after all these years - she's still got it! (And as I joked to my brother, we've got 'Duchess of Hamilton' surrounded!)

Re: That Perfect shot? - and NRM 18-19/02/12
I was there from 10 till 12:30 in blue jeans and a black coat, with my camera strapped around my neck. There were quite a few photographers around actually, and I got talking to one who was as annoyed as I was about people walking infront of shots. Also many thanks to the kind gentleman looking around the rocket replica who took a photo of me, my mum and dad infront of Britannia.
For obvious reasons I won't post the photo, but for anyone wishing to see the 'brit' before she leaves on 26/02/12 here's a taster:

Pity about the awful blobs and streaks of light when trying to get a reverse 3/4 shot of 'that rubbish' too.Blink Bonny wrote:Pity about the Rubbish between the Q1 and 2500
I rather like this one, though due to streaks and blobs of light there has been considerable cropping. One streak has been left though
