in researching prototype details for my next GNR kit through LRM, i found the details on LNER Encyclopedia.

Sadly some of the data is incorrect.
A number of people have misunderstood what happened to these locos when they were rebuilt. Only 1 loco, 766 was
dramatically rebuilt. ie it had a larger boiler, 4ft 5in domed, and the footplate was widened by 2.625 inches by bracketing, and the tanks and cab were similarly widened. the tank was converted to a taller, Ivatt style cab.

importantly, none of the other locos of the class were fitted with widened tanks on rebuild according to any of the
accepted sources.

however, it is also true to say that the last 4 of the class were both longer, and wider plus included well tanks at the rear to make up for the shorter main tanks.

final point, the crane engine in Doncaster was a converted class 120 0-4-4 well tank.

The G1 was one of the first pages written - it is possible it was edited down to the point of too much brevity.

Okay, I've checked my sources (Yeadons and the RCTS) and all told, everything is pretty much consistent.

The only error I see is that I have referred to the Ivatt boilers as domeless and I do not account for 766 which had a different boiler which require modifications (looks like I merged the two descriptions).

happy to help richard, my thoughts are though, you imply the frames were moved, which is not of course either true or possible, and that all the locos with 4ft 5 boilers had wider tanks.

Yes I'll re-word the frames - it was oddly worded in the RCTS book, and I was also trying to tie the info from your post, Yeadon's and the RCTS. On the face of it the RCTS and Yeadon's disgreed on the numbers of locos, but one was counting LNER survivors only, and the other was counting the entire class.

"overall width" is the phrase used in the RCTS book.
