Re: Named Thompson B1's
I can remember as a young boy climbing on 61250 A. Harold Bibby when it was on the deadline next to Darlington Shed in around 1962/3 and thinking to myself what a strange name. I was used to seeing Pacifics with more inspiring names!

Re: Named Thompson B1's
I have been looking through mid 1950s magazines, trying to find information on Derby dmus for the Grantham thread, when I came across an interesting but unconnected report in the April 1957 TI which states "The first green B1 to be reported No 61250 was seen at Hull on February 16th."
Presumably they mean the loco was in the green livery then being applied to the V2s with orange/black/orange lining?
This is news to me, but then I am a bit slow on the uptake sometimes. Does anyone have any further info on this loco in green?

Re: Named Thompson B1's
Just to add that I have looked in the relevant Green Book and in Yeadons, but there is no mention in either of any variations to livery once the mixed traffic black was applied.
I am currently scouring other magazines of the time to see if any correction was printed (although I am not sure what it could have been mistaken for) or any further corroborating evidence.
