O4 63601

Post by Brown Jack »

Hi,

I would like to congratulate everybody concerned over the years with getting this engine to its centenary year.

It was local around where I live for a number of years, I saw it for the first time in the fifties and it is good to still see it today. This photo was taken recently on 28th/29th Jan 2012.

Good stuff. Would be nice if they repainted it into 1912 colours to celebrate but I won't get my hopes up though!

I think there was some talk about it, but I don't think anything came of it. It is due to be going in for a major overhaul soon I believe, so maybe when it comes back, who knows.

Thanks Trev, I'd be very surprised to see it in anything other than it's current guise with the GVR's penchant for " i see a loco and i want to paint it (BR) black" to quote the Rolling Stones!

Hi Rlangham,
Just visited the GCR website, they are advertising that at the end of March, this will be one of its last running days in BR livery, the O4 63601. So we could get it in Its original colour yet.

Aside from the repaint, what would be required to make 63601 for 1912 GCR or WW1 ROD condition?

Ay up!

To put 63601 into true GC condition, she'd need Ramsbottom safety valves and a dummy superheater header damper cylinder fitted basically.

Meself, I'm banking on just a coat of paint!
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!

Yes, i'll still be happy with just a change of paint - i'll definitely make the visit to see 63601 in 1912 markings, despite my interest in all pre-grouping loco's, especially an Edwardian one, in 1950s/60s colours it doesn't fire the imagination quite as much
