I was born in 1960 and lived overlooking a field and railway embankment on the South Staffordshire Line around a half a mile from Pelsall Station which closed in 1965.
I very vaguely remember as a boy travelling behind a black locomotive to Walsall. Lichfield was the destination in the other direction that we might have travelled to.
Apparently after the station closed the line remained open as part of the Burton-Wolverhampton line but that was closed less than a year later and the track was eventually removed.
My late father would encourage me to watch the last steam engines go by but I was too young to appreciate them and only have vague recollections of diesels hauling locos off for scrapping presumably.
I am curious to know what steam locos might have operated on the line through Pelsall. If anyone has any recollections of the line or could recommend any reading material I would be grateful to hear from them.

Hi 2002,
You may have more luck if you post your query on the LMS forum - http://lmsforum.forumup.co.uk/
I suggest that you also look for some publications. There will almost certainly be a booklets entitled something like - Railways of South Staffordshire, Lost Railways of Staffordshire, Staffordshire By-lines. A visit to your local library may give results. Also look for publishers lists e.g. Booklaw.
If you visit the area, look in on the Chasewater Railway, it is situated near the line in question, they may have some photos or other info.
Cheers,
Richard

Re: Pelsall Station & Line
I followed the suggestion, put on a virtual disguise(!), and posted on the LMS Forum.
I'm quite shocked as to the number of members and just how quiet it is.

Ay up!
The LMS forum was killed off by spammers 'bout 18 months ago. You think its quiet now.....
I am always thankful that Richard takes prompt action when spam is reported. Sadly, the LMS Mods didn't and that's the result.

Having the right anti-spam tools helps. Early on we had a lot of spammers but it has been barely a problem since then (ie. it is easy for me to keep on top of). To give you an idea of the potential problem in the 10-15mins between Pair fixing the ported forums at the weekend and myself logging in, we had 4 spam user signups!
