There was also a V1 262T no. 7669 damaged in the daylight bombing of Middlesbrough Railway Station on 3rd August 1942, a Bank Holiday Monday, just after 1 pm. The train was actually waiting to go to Newcastle but needless to say, never got there that day.

Freight services were back to normal within 24 hours and passenger trains followed the day after. Surprisingly there were only 8 fatalities; 4 railway workers and 4 members of the public, this was partly due to a train just leaving the station, minutes before.

I seem to remember hearing about a few Dean goods locos being lost in the channel when the ship carrying them to France was sunk during the first world war. can anyone tell me the name of the ship and numbers of the locos.

I have read current article on locos lost at sea but information is sketchy. Can anyone give me the name of the ships carrying the Dean Goods & RODS,from that information i should be able to locate them from a book i have and see if they are diveable.

It is said that the US Army S 160's killed more footplate crews than jerry did, hope the NYMR make a good job on their's !

No Dean Goods were lost at sea during World War I. All but 2 of those requisitioned for the ROD were returned to the GWR in 1919-21. No.s 2308 and 2334 were sold to the Ottoman Railway. However, 8 of the 22 Armstrong class 388 0-6-0s were lost at sea: no.s 24, 438, 716, 781, 784, 1107, 1180 and 1191. I'm afraid I do not have dates or the name of the ship.

Several jingles were lost in Dunkirk Harbour.
On the York bombings, my grandad got an award clearing up the shed. The men worked non stop for 3 days and night and everything was operational by then. The shed was spared as 3 locos in abtriangle took the bomb blast. 2 are mentioned there was a third severely damaged a freight loco. Obviously the roof wasn't spared and a temporary one was installed until 1990
