Re: My New Puppy
I say Earl that is a very handsome dog.....and like you say very similar to the looks of a border collie.
Lass has had a very tiring today watching Mist-Tales of a Sheep Dog Puppy. Great video for anyone aged 3-83!

Re: My New Puppy
They are beautiful Owd!
How old are they? We are thinking when Lass is 1, getting another pup so that she isn't lonely, and they both have each other to play with.
Do your two get on well?

Hi Tom, Meg is 3-1/2 yrs and Breckin (male) 2-1/2 yrs and they get along really well. I have been lucky to have had three Border Collies in my life and although they are a bit more high maintenance than some other dogs, the rewards are well worth that extra bit of effort. Meg is above Breckin in our pack and he is happy to accept that (for now). They are a delight and so easy to train because they are so willing to please. Enjoy your pup, it is all too short a time.
Cheers, Peter. Feeling more Owd than usual tonight.
Pass the single malt and Happy New Year!

Cheers Owd!
So did you get them both as Pups? I'm just wondering how Lass will react when she is about 1...to another pup coming in!
She's been a handful this evening, rather hyper and nipping! But dads come back now as he was out this evening....she should be tired now after running havoc for a hour and a half!
Happy New Year All

Re: My New Puppy
Hi Tom, Yes we got Breckin as a pup, when Meg was I year old, and they got on very well. Meg was dominant, as befits her place and Breckin was submissive, as a pup will be. Perfect harmony. They now work and play together like the best of friends. I share my attention equally between them, but always make a fuss of Meg first.Tom F wrote:So did you get them both as Pups? It's a tough life being a pup
Thanks for the nice comments about Jack!
One of the biggest things for me is the welcome Jack gives when I come home! The teenagers barely register my presence, (unless they want something), and my wife's welcome largely depends on how stressed they have made her! Jack is always consistent, although if there's food being prepared......
Lovely dogs Bryan!

What a beautiful dog! She's quite the looker. Reminds me of the days when I had a German Shepard. He was something I'll tell you. I still remember the day I met him that he ripped a small hole on a pair of shorts I wore that day. He was a fiesty one!

Re: My New Puppy
Lovely......I hope you all are having fun with your pups/dogs.
our Ben de-dog has a bit of collie mixed in with labrador, or so the rescue said when* we adopted him - he was found tied to a fence....... (*his week 'at the pound' was up just three days after Harry went to the rainbow bridge)
I've no idea where he gets his energy from !!!!!
but this is his other side.

Re: My New Puppy
We've learned this week that our first dog - Jack (pictured below) - has a heart murmour. Actually it's a condition called Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia - the valve in the RHS of his heart doesn't open and close properly with the result that some blood flows backwards into the right atrium. It is not operable, and the right side of his heart will gradually enlarge, he'll get tired more easily, and well, it's all downhill from there. He's 21 months old but at best he'll last until he's 6 to 8 years old. Not what we expected and we're naturally very sad 'cause we very attached to the lovely little fella. We won't let him suffer and we'll make the most of him whilst he's around. What else can you do?
We're insured thankfully, and should get most of it back, but over the last few weeks we've spent > £1,000 on vet's/specialist's fees! Makes you wonder about those people who can't afford the insurance and run into these situations.

Re: My New Puppy
Oh what terrible news I am absolutely gutted for you. He is such a lovely looking fella as well.Spoil him rotten and enjoy every minute you have got with him and who knows what progress will be made in the next 5 years with vetinary surgery.I lost my last Border Collie at 6 with a heart attack so I do understand your situation.True animal lovers always do whats best for their boys and girls so we know he is in good hands.
Kind Regards,Derek.
