Did N2s have Westinghouse Pumps?

Post by Mick Berg »

Hi.
I've tried to search on this but everything is too vague. My question is, did any N2's have Westinghouse pumps?
Specifically those working in the Kings Cross area, and if you have dates, this info would be very useful.
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

A quick check in RCTS Locomotives of the LNER Part 9A indicates:

Yes, those N2s built for or allocated to the Scottish Area were fitted with Westinghouse pumps and some with Westinghouse engine-braking, not all being fitted for the latter.

Those subsequently transferred south went to the GE Section, to Stratford, where the instruction was to remove the Westinghouse gear when each locomotive passed through the shops. Those locomotives with Westinghouse engine-braking were also converted to vacuum operation. After modification each locomotive was then transferred to the GN Section.

Thus it seems that none of those so fitted were ever in the KX area, but...
