Well Gents, as promised, I've got 60526 done up into quite a typical 50A state!
Used the photo from 'The book of A1 and A2 Pacifics' as my reference. Added YORK and A-2 onto the buffer beam, and then weathered in my usual way, airbrush, thinners, Klear, airbrush, thinners, airbrush, powders, in roughly that order.
I'm pleased with how this one has turned out.....just need to get the track down for her to run on!
P.S Graeme I looked at the photos in the email of your A2....I think Bachmann have now got it right, looked very similar!

I have touched up that right hand side of the boiler as it looked too clean when compared to the other side.
Method was as I mentioned, but to give a bit more idea of detail, I airbrushed the wheels and chassis of the tender and loco with about 30% Matt leather and 70% Matt Black. Then changed my my paint to 10% Matt Leather, 5% Matt Black, 5% Gunmetal Metalcote, I basically then airbrushed bits along the boiler, then streaked with an airbrush, did a bit more etc. Then I used Johnson's Klear brushed along cleaner areas of the boiler and tender (to be honest I didn't really need to). I then went back to airbrush and did the same thing again, trying to not give a uniformed look.
I did the axle boxes with gunmetal then buffed it. The smokebox and deflectors was streaked also, to give the idea of water down the sides, then airbrushed again to tone it down.

Oh and I forgot to add I use a mix of Gloss No.9 with Metalcote Polished Steel 27003 on the motion. As you can see, it gives that nice oily metal look!

I was the same Earl! Thing is....with weathering, you can't really ruin the loco...many worry themselves of this, part of the way I weather is I put too much on and then get the desired effect using white spirit and removing most of the paint.
If anyone is reading this, and fancy weathering, but don't know where to start. I recommend the new Aspects of Modelling on Weathering by Tim Shakleton, plus Mr Shakleton's Right Track DVD on weathering. Both have been instrumental for me getting to the stage I am, and I am forever learning from fellow modellers.
What I WOULDN"T recommend is watching the flipping youtube video I did on weathering two years ago....seriously, AVOID!

You're pretty much master of the work-stain now Tom. I like your take on 60526. I wouldn't mine doing 60529 myself in this configuration though I suspect shed lost her plain 'lum' by 1956.

Your most kind Dave. I should have said but yourself and Tim Easter have been my real world guides with weathering, and I can't thank you both enough!!
The motion (your method really Dave) I think has worked particular well this time.
Between Christmas and New Year I'll be working on another Blue A1, rather unique this one too....
