I am not so sure the residents in any tenements around the environs of Top Shed would have been too happy with all that deliberate black smoke, though.

Some of the captions leave a lot to be desired. Since when did a King weigh 250 tons? And I would not want to travel all the way to Penzance on a Flying Banana working the Cornish Riviera.

yes that is a nice one with the original third rail shoe gear on the cross beam,also like the birdcage brake van further back on the same track

That Chicago shot with all the Santa Fe FTs and the big streamlined steamer is worthy of being one of those posters you see in trendy shops. It would go nicely with the obligatory one of the Empire State Building!

Third photo down is pretty reminiscent of the observation car of the present day 'The Canadian' we travelled on from Edmonton to Vancouver a couple of years back.

Unfortunately, identification is impossible since the cabside number and nameplate is obscured by a gathering of children on the platform. There's even a glimpse of another A3 on an adjacent track, but further back. Strange territory for these locos. I wonder what the occasion was. Anyone know? Anyone know which A3's were involved?

Looks to me like one of the exhibitions LNER used to do for PR purposes. I wouldn't like to guess what the rear loco is, but if we are looking at an exhibition I wouldn't be surprised if the front loco was Flying Scotsman - the numbers you can read match. Incidently, Flying Scotsman or not, it's still in A1 guise - no raised plate at the top of the smokebox - which matches the date since all A1s numbered 447x were only converted to A3 in the '40s.
