I've started to sort out the pictures taken during my recent visits to the Middleton Railway and National Railway Museum (York). It is going to take a few days to get them sorted and added to the site, but here are some tasters from the NRM Workshop.
During July 2005, Green Arrow suffered a failure at speed whilst hauling the York-Scarborough steam service. I am still seeking details, but it appears that the bolts holding the centre main bearing together failed.
I've heard different accounts as to what happened next, but it looks like piston blew the middle cylinder cover off.
Here's No. 60800 Green Arrow with the centre piston and motion parts alongside. Note the bent and twisted shape of the centre main con rod, and what looks to be the remains of the centre cylinder cover.
This image has been artificially brightened to show the centre cylinder bore in the monobloc casting. This is only visible because the cover has been removed.

Nice photos, would be interested to see any of NER 1310 at the Middleton Railway if you have any, hopefully she's in static condition unless they're giving her an overhaul.

She's in bits, awaiting an overhaul. With the major building work that is going on, the Middleton's priorities are elsewhere for this year. They have Lottery money to build a visitor's centre, and the line is also closed due to council building work (new bridge). The new building will be pretty big. As well as an educational element regarding trains in Leeds, it will also enable more locomotives to be kept under cover.
It sounds like it is a popular engine when it is running.
Nice, i'm very interested in the NER (as you can probably tell). I hope one day to have a several day long roadtrip up to county Durham to visit 'Locomotion' at Shildon, the various groups and the museum at Darlington e.t.c. and also the Middleton Railway and the National Railway Museum at York.
