King's Cross locomotive distance limit 1950
Morning all!
Around 1950, what was the working distance of a 34A loco on stopping express passenger trains?
I'm wanting to see the likely hood of Top Shed A1s, A3s and A4s coming off at York.
Cheers
Tom

Ay up!
The limit was surely Edinburgh Waverley with the non-stoppers! However, most expresses changed engines at either Grantham or Peterborough, didn't they?
There were also non-stoppers to Leeds and Doncaster.

G'Day Gents
You could have a number of reasons, for that, the best one would be a Hot box or a broken whistle !

Were there any particular workings that saw 34A locos coming off at 50A?

Wasn't there a working which was first stop York? Or have I dreamed that?

As a frequent spotter at York from 1959 to 1963, I never saw a loco change on any ECML trains. I assume that the K+ locos worked through to Newcastle.
Re: King's Cross locomotive distance limit 1950
From my visit to York in the 50/60s were not most "scotch expresses" non stop through York using the non platformed two centre roads?
