Tenders

Post by WPRly »

Can I ask for a bit of help please about certain LNER Tenders ie as attached to locos & not tenders for buying items.
I am specifically interested in tenders attached to the following classes of locos D11/2, D29, D30 & D49.
Answers on a postcard please stating for each class 1/ Diameter of wheels. 2/ Number of spokes.
For the latter I`m swithering between 10 or 12 spokes but tender wheels are never very well clear on all the photos I`ve looked at.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Ay up!

The answer to all of these is it depends which tender was attached at the time. They all had various different tenders at different times - the D49s for example had stepped GS tenders, flush GS tenders, NER tenders and GC tenders coupled to them. In fact the survivor, Morayshire, still has a GC tender.

You will need photos of the locos you intend to model and then to identify the type of tender before consulting drawings and the like.

Hope this helps.

Hello
While the D-49's indeed ran with many different types of tenders, those coupled to the other three classes throughout their service life is less complicated. The D-11/2 had the standard Robinson GCR 4000 gal tender, with 4'3" wheels with 12 spokes. The D-29's and D-30's always ran with essentially the same Reid NBR tender, with 4'0", 12 spoke wheels. Hope this helps.
Forward!
