Very intersting to see that some don't have the number plates on the smokebox, and that one V2 even had it's number plate on the smokebox strap, which I've never seen before

60869 is at tha South end of platform 2 at Grantham for certain. 60814 is in my opinion leaving the north end of Welwyn South Tunnel on a Down Train approaching the southern end of Welwyn North Tunnel.I do not feel 100% on this one as it could be the North end of the North Tunnel.60869 is a certainty at Grantham. However some fantastic photographs so many thanks for sharing.

Yes, the one with brand new Pullmans (presumably on delivery) is an excellent historical photo, and maybe if I could afford that many Bachmann Pullmans, I could try a re-creation of it, although I am not sure of the identity of the vehicles at the rear.
I had always assumed new carriages would have been taken south in ones and twos, via an ECS working, but not that many all at once.

More Thoughts, but not certainties. Could 60936 be on the UP at Welwyn North Station, then 60950 on the Up at Huntingdon Station and finally at the present time how about 60962 on the Down at Wood Green with the Semi Detached houses being on the road leading up to Ally Pally.
I am open to being persuaded if someone has any better ideas.
Regards.

60814 (1) is travelling south leaving Welwyn north tunnel and about to enter the north bore of the south tunnel.....60814 (2)...is traveling north just coming off Welwyn Viaduct to enter Welwyn North Station..

As noted above 60936 is traveling south through Welwyn North... I think 60914 2 is traveling north at the southern approach to Welwyn Garden City Station

Could pic 47 be the up slow platform at Wood Green? No more than a suggestion.

Agree with 60914 (2) northbound approaching WGC. The previous shot of 60914, I'd hazard a guess at up slow through Oakleigh Park.swhite01 wrote:As noted above 60936 is traveling south through Welwyn North... I think 60914 2 is traveling north at the southern approach to Welwyn Garden City Station

60919 is, I believe, heading south from Aberdeen on that postal; sometime between 1963-5. I think she was at Ferryhill during that period and the overall turnout suggests that.

Neil,
this is a bit of an outside shot, but does anyone else think picture No 26. of 60862 could be on the Up Main approaching Stoke Tunnels northern portal and adjacent to High Dyke sidings.Really posting this as a question to get other peoples opinions rather than stating that it is correct.
Regards,Derek.

Looking at the photo of 60885 at an unidentified location (on page 4 of the smugmug link), the site rang a bell in relation to a previous 'where's this?' poser:
pinpoint-the-locations-t5546.html
specifically:
http://www.historypassage.org.uk/html/o ... max15.html
Allowing for the possibility of changes in the track layout and the signalling (and the growth of the trees in the right background obscuring the houses), the setting of the railway in the landscape, the 'box and pole route all seem to me to be strikingly similar in both pictures, though 25 or so years apart. I'm sure I've seen the location, in its 1950s-60s condition, identified before somewhere on the Forum - really the signal should be a giveaway to anyone who knew it. Any ideas anyone?
