What's the most important thing on a steam loco.

Ay possibly the tea can, most people thing locomotives run on coal and water but in reality they run on tea

This was also important on a steam loco, a nice shovelful of egg and bacon. Fry ups always tasted good cooked on the shovel.

Yeah bet it did, before health and safety stuck thier noses in.

To answer your question Alan I work for the NYMR, I'm a 'jack of all trades, master of none'

I am a 'trolly dolly' TTI and trainiee guard.

Hi Karl
I visited NYMR last October, it was an awful day it rained all day. I went there because a NYMR driver Steve Roberts got me a footplate pass. I only know Steve from another steam group. I am not in good health and did not ride on the footplate as I was not well. On the day I went the loco was a small GRW tank and what with Steve his fireman and a passed cleaner on the loco there was no room for me. I did have a chat with steve and it was nice to put a face to someone whom I had only known via the internet. Do you you know Steve. I have added a photo of myself at NYMR I'm getting old and a bit fatter than I was in my firing days.

It's not just the loco crew that survive on tea at NYMR, as a Trainee Guard, I couldnt manage without the stuff! When are you next about Karl? I'm working this weekend (14th 15th July)

I'll be there Tuesday, Wednesday on the Whitby's with Marj and then im there on Friday with John and I'll be there as usual pulling my trolley on on Saturday
