Southern Railway Spamcans
Talking of spamcans, where is the 'City of Wells' these days. I saw once in the early 70s stripped down in the yard at Haworth.
Re: spancans
Still on the KWVR? I read somewhere that it is nearing the end of a two-decade-long overhaul. Will it keep the Giesl exhaust?Kestrel wrote:Talking of spamcans, where is the 'City of Wells' these days. I saw once in the early 70s stripped down in the yard at Haworth.

Re: spancans
Ay up!
I understand that it will be in almost as built condition so I think the quick answer re Giesl exhausts is no. The only mod will be a screw reverse rather than the steam reverse.

If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!
Re: spancans
I wondered what the title meant then realised it wasn't about a canned bridge.
SPAMCANS not SPANCANS.
SPAMCANS not SPANCANS.

Title amended
Was surprised to see 34070 'Manston' in steam, I remember seeing and photographing Manston behind the main shed at the Great Central Railway at Loughborough when I was a kid (late 90's), tenderless, with faded paint

Re: Southern Railway Spamcans
I once saw Manston a couple of years ago when onboard a Gatwick Express heading for foreign parts she was at the head of a train about 5 miles out of Victoria.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
