Speaking of the pits - did you build them yourself, or can they be purchased? You see, I might steal more of your ideas!!

good track layout....but where is the water tower, I do like the way you altered Leeman Rd bridge to go over the tracks and not under...if only in real life that happened then the LNER Gresley carriage could have been rescued instead of being cut up.

Ah yes the Water Tower, that is going between the Civil engineer siding and the Yard lines, I've left alot of space around there on purpose

Hi 2002, I would love to take credit for the pits...but can't they are simply Peco Code 75 inspection pits, easy enough to get hold of! Shall we say borrow ideas, rather than steal...sounds that bit more civilized! nice to know our efforts rub off on each other2002EarlMarischal wrote:Speaking of the pits - did you build them yourself, or can they be purchased? Out of interest (and thanks again for those files) What is the 4mm width of the base of that tower?Dave wrote:You will need it
Quick update
I got the Townstreet 'Cenotaph' pretty much finished yesterday. Involved some filling in (quite alot of filling in) using plaster of paris. Then painting again, before finally weathering her.
The only thing that is left to do, is to add the guard rails for the hoist track.
First time I had built a Townstreet kit so didn't really know what to expect. There was quite a few issue with parts not lining up properly, and there was an incident with a top wall (with window breaking) which snapped in two. Hence a cracked pane, but as it's the inside facing face of the tower, it won't really be seen....call it wartime wear a tear
See what you guys think

Great photos, not just because your model look so realistic, but also because they're great workshop scenes! Everyone should have a room like that!
Thanks for the info on the pits - I'm too mean to pay for manufacturer's catalogues these days so don't always know what's on the market.

Re: LEAMAN ROAD 50A. Tom's Layout and Work Bench
Thanks alot gents!
I do need to get my workbench tidied up, since I started work on the Cenotaph, things have got a little out of hand, but now she is almost done, I can get that sorted.
Glad you guys like her, I'm pleased with the results, and as I have said...first time doing a Townstreet kit, I'd be interested in doing another one.
Looks LNER enough for me now anyway!
Cheers

Re: LEAMAN ROAD 50A. Tom's Layout and Work Bench
Hi Tom
Looks good. Mess starts to build up on my bench at times too - usually when I'm keen to get something finished by a particular time, when slinging things down on the bench takes less time than putting them in the cupboards/toolbox/bin. So what? You can tidy up later, while you have a beer!

btw, I noticed you said the Townstreet coaling stage wasn't based on Immingham in another thread. I think I know where it is loosely based on, found this picture today on Flickr

Mine looks very similar to Neville Hill after seeing this picture...except my poor workmen are stranded as there is no way of getting to the top...or bottom, a lift might be required as Neville Hill shows

Re: LEAMAN ROAD 50A. Tom's Layout and Work Bench
Ay up!
I have a theory - given a work bench the size of a snooker table to work on, I think all of us would work in a space 12 inches by 18 inches with the rest covered in junk!
Which reminds me - must tidy mine. Just about got room to put the LMS 2P I'm working on down!

Re: LEAMAN ROAD 50A. Tom's Layout and Work Bench
Evening all
After the last week, of just trying to see how everything would fit together, I decided to start laying track out. A big thank you to Gilbert (great northern) for kindly giving me lots...and I mean lots of track from his original Peterborough North. A lot of it is usable for the layout, and the pointwork I bought from him is a godsend!
Anyhow, I've laid everything out, and this is how things look so far.
All radii are no tighter than 42 inches, so I see no problems for my kit locos...I didn't want anything sharper as my B16/3 has got to be able to negotiate the layout.
Views from the top of the Cenotaph.
There are to be two unpowered coach sidings, to give an idea of depth and the feeling there are more sidings beyond into the backscene. I also thought it would be a way to get me into kit coach building next year...and a place keep said kits.
While I planning things out, I thought I might as well get a few locos out to give me a feeling of how things will hopefully be in a few months
60121 Silurian awaits her duty in one of 50As many sidings.
60503 Lord President moves off her home shed
Doncaster's 60090 Grand Parade is being coaled before being turned and will then await a duty to take her home.
Finally a visitor from Grantham...the one off A1/1 60113 'Great Northern' moves on shed for servicing. beautifully painted, weathered and DCC'd by Tim Easter
My 50A is starting to come together
Thanks for looking

Coming on well. I hope that dodgy looking hanging shelf above is stronger than it looks
