One member of staff informed me it might be next in line for a major overhaul. Time will tell.

On display during my visit was the GER/LNER E4 2-4-0, LTSR 4-4-2 Thundersley, a 2-10-0 German Kreigslok (ex Norwegian Rly), the BG plus a few Royal Coaches.

I visited Bressingham in about 1981. At the time, there was also a SNCF 141R posed alongside the DRG Kriegslok. I think the former eventually went back to France. If the Kriegslok is still there, then I wonder if it would ever steam again?

What was all the polava with 70013 and Bressingham a few years back? I can't quite seem to remember, thats all.

It was to do with Steam Railway magazine's attempt to get the engine released and in steam in time for the anniversary of the 1968 Fifteen Guinea Special.

As I recall, Alan Bloom and David Ward refused to release the engine at the time on the basis that the NRM had put 70013 "on permanent loan" to Bressingham. This begged the question as to whether a loan could ever be "permanent". If it was, then it was no longer a loan in the strictest sense of the word.

By releasing 70013, Bressingham would lose what would be a cash cow.

I think you'll find the 'Duchess' was 6233 Duchess of Sutherland. Fully restored, she has already done one 10yr stint on the mainline, currently she is in pieces for overhaul for the next 10yr running period

Incidently, she actually hauled the royal train, on the main line, in the early years of this century
