Why do you think Hornby have prepetuated the dark surrounds to all doors and vetilator hoods? In practise the colour was pretty constant given some variation of teak panel shades. This seems to spoil an otherwise good effort.

Personally I agree with you. At least the lower graining is horizontal.

I forgot to tell you they were there on Saturday as well.....I managed 2 visits.

Thats a good point on the window and door surrounds, but I must admit I did not notice that untill I read the post and looked at my pics, i was too capped by seeing them. A bit of weathering and it won't be so noticable....it's probably due to the way they print/paint the sides.

Dapol did dark surrounds on their N gauge models and it looks awful.

I'll have a look at the Hornby ones when I get them from Hatton's and see if they need a 'paint over' amongst other modifications.

With ref to the four Full Brakes, two for each colour, they were announced months ago when they announced the suburbans.

Cost. I did raise it with them recently and was told it would increase the cost of the final model. I also read somewhere that the current teak livery takes over 100 printed layers.

So in the end it is a compromise.

I had an email from Hatton's today to say that R4530 and R4530A (teaks) are ready for collection at £36 each. R4531 and R4531A (BR Maroon [sic]) are listed at £30 each.

I think given the highly inaccurate bodyshape and bogies, I won't be buying the latest Chinese offerings. And don't get me started on their reliability on the track...

Not to mention the dodgy sole bars, too closely spaced queen posts and under sized battery boxes, a poor effort from Hornby. Another triumph of detail and finish over accuracy, such a shame from the company that produced the superb non corridor range. At thirty or forty odd pounds I call it a rip off.

Strange how the Railroad teaks, although lacking in many things (scale length for example! ) look more Gresley then grisley!

Just picked up my 3rd replacement...other 2 damaged during shipment....broken headstock, then a missing glazing bar, that one must have happened during assembly. This 3rd one seems to be ok. It's a brilliant model though.

I've got the latest Model Rail, with the review for the new Hornby bogie brakes. Had to read it twice just to be sure. They changed the body profile to more closely match the originals, by pulling in the tumblehome?! God above. How long have modellers of the LNER or BR(ER) been screaming for them to do this?

By the way, are they close to being accurate now, or are they still way out of shape? Haven't seen one in the flesh yet. Meadowhall Modelzone is concentrating on flogging the Brighton Belle, and not been anywhere near Antics for months.
