I've deleted them.
They were using proxies (probably other people's PCs infected with virus bots) so I can't ban a sequence of IP addresses.
I'm probably going to have to change the signup captcha.

It was obviously a concerted effort, because when I looked in at around 1030 UK time, the spamming had been going on for about 6 hours.
