Point not missed; (rather like, once familiar with them, not needing to mentally count the beats in signalling bell codes) - Just an observation that 'and' was one of the few non-number words used along with the many numbers* which constituted the train reporting messages. *- (spelled out alphabetically, thankfully: And I had never fancied trying to get to grips with the proper morse numerals codes).

I don't suppose that you or anyone has a complete list of the call codes at any given period? Where they just used for SBs or did they include District Control and other particular locations?
I was speaking to a young signalman at Weybourne Station box on the North Norfolk line last weekend who said he had got into signalling via computer simulators and thought he would like to try his hand at the real thing! Steam locos were dismissed as 'kettles', however.
I have made a start on the project to provide telegraph instruments in my boxes.. This one carries an engraved label 'HF'. It is believed to have originated from Three Counties box.
The second instrument, also from Three Counties, carries a 'PC' engraved label.

They didn't include Control Offices but did include Telegraph Offices at key locations and sometimes Goods Offices. On other railways, such as the L&NWR they were between stations rather than boxes (latterly, at least).
A full list of codes would be an almost impossible project, but when I was on the GN I wrote a lot of them down as we referred to train destinations using their two-letter telegraph code aswell. The LNER published a little booklet titled 'Let's learn the single needle' or somesuch. When I retired, presented my copy to a gentleman who now works for the RSSB.
Where these booklets fairly common, does anyone know?

I could do with one methinks. Installing them is a doddle it's actually working them that's going to cause the problems.
