My notes from the early 60's are long gone, however I found eventually these from Driffield on the 6th May 1960. I've now googled the 6th May 1960 and found it was a Friday, Princess Margaret's wedding day, so I assume we had a day off school. Steam locomotives only:-
61935, 43077, 61255, 44856, 45219, 44951, 43123, 61135,
7th May 1960:- 61846, 43079, 61049, 45565, 61892, 61432, 61859, 61225, 61897, 61429, 61152, 61825 & possibly 64442.
Another 1960 summer Saturday (14 May 1960?):- 61978, 61114, 48311, 61127, 61295, 61126, 61901, 73155, 61075, 61213, 61023, 42958, 61094, 45565, 61923 & 48126.
My local notes are poor but I do seem to have been better when recording away from home.

Thanks for the info NG.
It must have been hard work getting a J11 to the coast, especially if via Enthorpe bank, though I assume assistance would have been provided. I have seen a photo of a J6 at Brid though.

Sorry for the delay, been on holiday.Interesting also that V2s were quite common, you rarely see them in photos of the Brid line, do you have notes of the numbers?
I have note of just 2 V2s through Cottingham (there would be others, not logged).

I have 1 photograph of D49 62723 Nottinghamshire pulling away from Beverley with an evening Scarborough or Bridlington to Hull train in July 1960

Does anyone have any information for Sat 13th July 1963, specifically for a Blackburn and/or Preston - Scarborough service which I believe ran to (or via) Filey Holiday Camp. The headcode may have been 1X36 (or C223 although I am told this is a pre 1962 headcode).
Similarly I am also seeking info on the return working back to Blackburn on 27th July 1963.
Any & all information on route, motive power (or even where to search further) would be gratefully received.

Sorry Railrover, I have no information about that train, it may well have travelled via York rather than Hull.

Many thanks for checking Solario. You may be right re York routing, but the equivalent workings in 1961 were via Market Weighton & Driffield so I remain hopeful.

I was under the impression that many of the long distance trains changed locomotives at Gascoine Wood. In which case the train would mostly have an LNER type at the head. Anything originating in Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire would probably retain its engine. Fifty years ago we kids just did not understand reporting codes or WTT, only recorded the loco numbers.
The best bit was standing on Driffiled station and guessing what type of train engine it was as it crossed Beverley Road coming from Market Weighton. A V2 occaisionally turned into an A3, a Stanier 5 into a Jubilee and once a Patriot turned up, to all our delights.
A Brit passed through one day, I never saw it but I did persuade father to take me to Brid but he baulked at Scarboro. Eventually I did see one and I think it was No 4 or 14.
Fond memories.

Since the above post I have received further information which partly answers my questions, though further requests are below.
The 13th July 1963 working has now been confirmed as 1X36 0725 Blackburn - Scarborough running via Bolton, Heywood, Todmorden, Wakefield, Selby, Bridlington & a reversal at Filey Holiday Camp. The loco (to at least Filey Camp) was 44982 which had presumably worked through from Blackburn.
On 20th July 1963 61455 worked 1X11 Relief Scarborough - Blackburn (calling at Bridlington 12.08), but I would be grateful if anyone can confirm how far this loco travelled. I am informed that loco changes of LNER for LMS types were the norm at Gascoigne Wood in 1959, but may have ceased by 1963. Whilst B16's were not unknown in East Lancashire I would still have thought it possible a change took place somewhere en route.
On 27th July 1963 there were two extras from Bridlington to Preston, 1X15 departing 0845 (60954) & 1X16 departing 1105 (60810) but again how far they worked is not known.

I have dug out a shot of a V2 passing through Beverley, returning from the coast. The station can be seen in the background.
Unfortunately, I did not make a note of the number, I think that it was the same day (probably an August Sunday) that A3 60038 "Firdaussi" was on a similar working, my photo of the A3 is too poor to post.

Interesting photo Solario,
Its the first time I have seen a photo taken from this location (Flemingate crossing?), I used to commute to Hull in the late 70's and can't remember the goods shed, any idea what year it was demolished or is my memory failing faster than I thought? I have always liked the buildings on the line, the twin chimneys and bow windows on the houses always appealed, shame this one is now under "Armstrong Way". I remember the dock at the North end of the station always used to have a few china clay wagons unloading, presumably the contents bound for Hornsea pottery after their branch closed.

The goods shed blew down late 70's? (at work so do not have details to hand!) it was used by EYMS as a garage & as luck would have it no buses in their that night all parked outside.
