G'Day Gents
One good thing about working at the Cross was having the time between trains to be able to walk over the road to 'Kings Cross Model shop', used to drool over the hand built P1's O2's C1's etc at the bargain price of 45 quid (twice my wage??) so none of them ever came home with me

I was googling for a picture, but only came up with this yuppie paradise called St Pancras International, and er.. Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross? Yes, I believe they were Italian or maybe Polish - and the fish tasted as though it came fresh from up North - not the "Rock Salmon" which passes off as fish in most London cafés.

Re: Kings Cross - Gas Works & Copenhagen Tunnels
I thought that I would resurrect this thread as I have been reading an article in the October 1956 Trains Illustrated which describes a Summer Saturday at Kings Cross.
It makes for fascinating reading, especially the general chaos was not helped by flooding from overnight thunderstorms; and then a woman who realised she was on the wrong train just as it was leaving and pulled the communication cord as the train entered Gasworks Tunnel.

Even in the early 70's so many trains could arrive at Kings Cross early on a Saturday morning, for a Rugby International or School girls Hockey match, that locos had to be sent to Finsbury Park depot or the old Hornsey MPD for fueling and stabling, I remember on one Saturday, we had locos tucked away in the milk docks, platforms 14&15 (platforms not used at the weekends) as the passenger loco was FULL
