The Germans did'nt like that station did they, probably aiming for the chip shop next door I have been to Middlesbrough once, but can't remember if it still has it still had it's roof or not, could you enlighten us with a more up to date picture, or is it a two track station with bus shelters now.....shudder

Middlesbrough Station is still intact except for the overall roof which was removed .( one of the few M'bro Victorian buildings that has survived the 1960s planners, who did much more damage to Britain than the Luftwaffe!) and has been improved greatly by the removal of an attached 1960s office block.

Thanks for posting those i was going to come to the exhibition but work intervened. I am now engaged on recommissioning cranes at Lackenby Steelworks for SSI and lodging at sunny Redcar.
Its nice to see the industrials moving about again. Do you know of any sites of interest that covers the steelworks locos. Its good that most carry names although the BSC logo has been defaced on most of them.

Thanks for the pics. Saltburn was where, as a very young lad, in 1949, I discovered my lifelong interest in steam trains. Was back there earlier this year. 'Tis only a shadow of it's former self. (sigh)
Has the layout been written up in any of the railway mags?

In regards to locomotives and Teesside steel works, you might try the following whilst you enjoy your stay in Redcar:

Kirkleatham Museum in Redcar, which has some images of local industrial & rail operations. Picked up a copy of a Cleveland Ironstone District Railway Map (c 1910) here, as well as images of Clay Lane Ironworks.

Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum at Skinningrove, Loftus. Images associated with the ironstone mines, steelworks, etc, and run by a very helpful team of volunteers. Model railway enthusiasts are working on an Edwardian period layout of the local railway operation for the Museum

Teesside Archives in Middlesbrough, which hosts the Dorman Long/British Steel/Corus archives, with many images of the steelworks over a substantial period of time. Very helpful staff again, and picked up images including Sir Bernard Samuelsons Newport Ironworks with various local wagons, Ministry of Munitions, and the odd Great Central area wagon, so must be circa 1917/18.

Ken Hoole Study Centre at North Road Railway Museum, Darlington, which holds the North Eastern Railway Association archives, and probably has images of everything related to the area & its operations. Need to ring ahead and arrange access if possible?

Mr B perhaps you could enlighten the forum about the deviations and openings and closure dates of stations around Redcar and BSC.
