[It's 5972, Olton Hall, (TOPS No. 98572) ]Micky wrote:Yes it was Stevie i believe it had worked a 'Hogwarts special' up into Kings Cross and was 'turning' via Camden Road/Canonbury Junc/Harringay. I am not sure of the date but i would say it was sometime around the summer of 2003 it was a hot sunny afternoon i seem to remember.
Also the same loco (ex-GWR Hall) ran across the T&H line from Harringay park Junction towards Acton about a year ago in steam pulling it's support coach.

Hey, whatever keeps it running. It's been immortalized as a fibre glass model in the states, too!

Got to throw this one in, even if it is non LNER - and you need to be of a certain age to appreciate it. Bletchley blokes used to say there were two Halls you'd never see at Oxford. Henry Hall and F~ck Hall. Sorry, Richard
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Re: GWR locos in the North East
Funnily enough, I was reading through Railway Memories No. 22, Return to Leeds (Anderson and Rose) the other day, and found a picture of Clun Castle in Holbeck shed. As silverfox said, it was undergoing gauging trials for a series of railtours in 1967. In the picture it is moving off the turntable at 9.50 am on 22nd August 1967 prior to working a gauging special to Carcroft (Doncaster) and Calder Bridge (Wakefield). In 1967 I remember seeing a Castle - I think Clun Castle - light loco in the Newcastle area.

'City of Truro' was stored during WW11 at Sprouston shed on the NER Kelso Branch. Whilst no photograph has appeared of its journey north, there is a (poorish) and undated photo of the journey south after the war. This was taken at Belford when it was working south as a light engine.
Re: GWR locos in the North East
There is a typically glorious TG Hepburn photograph of 'City of Truro' leaving Nottingham Vic - 26th August 1959- en route for Edinburgh. At five to one (or maybe five past eleven).

Re: GWR locos in the North East
I have recently moved house after 4 years in a rental property and while unpacking boxes of railway bits and pieces I came across the attached photograph.Clun Castle is heading north having passed through Selby station, over the river Ouse swing bridge and is now entering the large BOCM complex at Barlby.I took the photo sometime in the late 1960's but can anybody please put a more accurate date on it and any ideas as to what special it was hauling.
Thanks in anticipation,

Re: GWR locos in the North East
An interesting bit of information gleened from reading this thread that I didn't know, and that is that City (Slippy as the KWVR lads call it ) of Truro was in the care of the LNER from before the war. Whats the story behind that?
Its good to know where you stand. Saves making a fool of yourself later......
