LNER Coronation Kits
I am currently in New Zealand and have the opportunity to bid on their equivalent of Ebay for A LNER Coronation Kit. I know nothing of these but it sounds interesting and I would welcome any information. The details are
OO LNER Coronation express kits. 9 Articulated, fully detailed coach kits made by Mailcoach/ Coopercraft of England. Includes spare bogies, full interiors including appropriate art-deco armchairs. Needs paint, couplings, wheels and bearings to complete,
The current bid price is NZ$150 which is about twenty eight pounds.

Hello Keith,
These are still made and available new (see http://homepages.tesco.net/tony.brown/coopercraft/). You can check out the prices yourself. They are quite nice to make up but a bit fiddly to paint. Done well they do look good.
At that price, a full set is a bargain.
Cheers,
Jonathan

Re: LNER Coronation Kits
A contribution for 2009.
A D&S brass etched kit of the full 8 car set of The Coronation, just sold off eBay for £363. Is that a huge price?
Unfortunately the original manufacturer would not have got that.
If you want to look at it, the Item number is: 310146279301

Re: LNER Coronation Kits
It works out at just over £45 per coach, I know because I just missed out on them. I recently bought the Silver Jubilee 8 coach set from MARC Models at £38.00 per coach, so for something that you cannot get any more it's reasonable. It sounds a lot because they were all listed at once. Mike Radford is quite happy to sell you a coach at a time.

I suspect that if Danny Pinnock was still in business he would be charging nearer £500 for the set.kimballthurlow wrote:A contribution for 2009.

Re: LNER Coronation Kits
Yes Bill, prices will continue to depend on how many sets were originally made, how many are offered from time to time, compared to how many buyers there are.
And I guess if you had a professional modeller make up the set, the cost could well be £100 per coach.

Re: LNER Coronation Kits
I/m saying that the D&S would be charging £60 plus per coach for most of their range.kimballthurlow wrote:Yes Bill, prices will continue to depend on how many sets were originally made, how many are offered from time to time, compared to how many buyers there are.
And the rest. £3-400 per coach would be a reasonable price for a professional builder. And I guess if you had a professional modeller make up the set, the cost could well be £100 per coach.

Re: LNER Coronation Kits
Makes £38 for a Hornby coach look quite reasonable
