Re: Kings Cross
I remember him, his name was Frank, I think his christian name was something like Sargeson. I also bought quite a few of his prints and still have them somewhere. I think that he ended up in the training school at Ilford. I'm sure that Frank was not connected with the KX12. Wish I could remember some of the names, the main guy came from South of the River I seem to remember, used to give out all those visit details and allocation on coloured paper.
Anyone remember the other guy from control who used to come down the end of 10 and tell us of any unusual arrivals. Towards the end of my spotting days used to find out what was on the Highwayman, usually a class 40, or bucket as they used to be called.

Re: Kings Cross
If the name 'Frank Sargeson' is correct, wonder if he was related to the Ernie Sargeson (Sargieson?), (who, by the sound of things, must have been younger), associated, I think, with the ER at Great Northern House in Euston Road at King's Cross, and something of a railway artist (drawing)?

Re: Kings Cross
That's a coincidence, there was a Frank Sargeson (not sure of the spelling) who was Deputy at Newcastle!
Re: Kings Cross
Micky,
We are talking about the same person, but now that you have mentioned the name Jack you may be right. We need to find somebody from Stratford to see if they can remember him. I know that he took a few of the photos, but he certainly did do all the printing. I was probably one of those assembled spotters. I've found some of the photos, perhaps I'll scan them in later.

Yes, why were EE Type 4s called buckets?60526 wrote:I remember him, his name was Frank, I think his christian name was something like Sargeson. Re: Kings Cross
Never heard that name used in the KX district or when I was at Crewe - if they weren't Class 40s, in my experience they were called 'two thousands' or 'Whistlers', although the latter was more a gricers nickname.strang steel wrote:Yes, why were EE Type 4s called buckets?60526 wrote:I remember him, his name was Frank, I think his christian name was something like Sargeson. A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!
Re: Kings Cross
The Stratford crew would be driving former 'Toffee Apple' D5518/31018 which, following an accident, was rebuilt with indicator boxes, but remained on the 30A allocation...

Re: Kings Cross
Somehow I doubt it, but you're not thinking that the KX crew's loco would be a FP 31 with a white waistband to indicate it was ETH-fitted, are you?
(More likely to be something about how the two depot's crews set different displays shown by the headcode blinds, perhaps.)
