Wilkinson was the secretary on the commonest kind of NER trespass. The rarest was Wedgwood who was only secretary for ONE year! Both these types were often drilled and over plated "RF Dunnell" as he was the last NER secretary before the LNER. As an earlier poster said there are many fake cast iron signs about and the easiest way to tell is to look for "flash" around the inside of the bolt holes. If it has flash it has never had a bolt through it. Also of course if the back is painted be highly skeptical - try scraping off a sliver of paint and if you see bare metal instead of pitted rusty metal it's a fake.redtoon1892 wrote:Was it Charles Wilkinson whose name was at the bottom of the substantial cast iron L.N.E.R.No Trespassing signs ?. I had a one many years ago which I salvaged when we were removing a disused level crossing in Dunston, the gates etc were just cut up, vandalism when you think about it now.I gave it away when we moved house.

Re: SIGN
the sign of the times...if it was any good you'd keep it, as a status symbol, mine is on the living room wall as I know from where it came, as myself removed it when the Richmond (Yorks) branch closed.
mr B .. as I said before the price is on it ... forty shilling's.
