Riverside Line (North Tyneside) photos ?
I drive Metros on the adjacent line, and would like pics of the old Riverside line and stations. Managed to find a couple of Carville pics, would love more, esp Walker station, and the various lines there.

Have you a copy of Suburban railways of Tyneside by Alan Young? Lots of pictures of the North Tyne Loop and the Riverside .
Re: Riverside Line (North Tyneside) photos ?
Nope. I'll follow that up. Ironically, my minder driver when I started driving metros 20 years ago was a bloke called....Alan Young. Hows that for irony, eh ?TRESTROL wrote:Have you a copy of Suburban railways of Tyneside by Alan Young? Lots of pictures of the North Tyne Loop and the Riverside .
Cheers
Someone else mentioned Willington Viaduct. I have no worries driving over that at all, but there was i gather a smaller viaduct going over the Rope works towards Willington Quay. I'd LOVE a pic of that !

try the sine project there is pictures on that and of stations, and can you tell us anything more about the buried electric unit(s) at gosforth car sheds the one with the asbestos in it
Re: Riverside Line (North Tyneside) photos ?
Didn't know there was any buried electric units, as per asbestos, there was just a couple of months back a company involved in getting asbestos out. Seemed to be mainly the maintenance area, and the centre path of the depot. Suited up workers and sealed off area of work.third-rail wrote:try the sine project there is pictures on that and of stations, and can you tell us anything more about the buried electric unit(s) at gosforth car sheds the one with the asbestos in it
As for the two recommended sites, yeah. Visited them. Actually used to do a bit of walking along the old line, now a cycle track. Problem was too many peabrains with dogs off the leash, gangs of moronic teen thugs (had a bottle thrown at me once while walking past ! Plastic yes, but the spiteful unnecessarity of it is typical of "these days") and hidey holes for druggies. Sad, but typical Britain 2010.

I have a number of Riverside photos on my Flickr photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/pinzac55/
I see Tanfield has posted one of my photos (centre shot of Byker station 1978) so here is a shot of a cute 3 armed T bracket signal at St Peters in 1977. I was so keen in those days that I asked British Rail if I could buy it and they said I could have it free but would to pay (I think) £30 for a Flagman.I offered it to both Beamish Museum and the NYMR but they didn't want it, so it was cut up and burnt.

The first photo of the 37 is 37098 at Byker which was actually returning from Carville to Tyne Yard. I was the guard on it.

Re: Riverside Line (North Tyneside) photos ?
The captions for the photos in the first group have been corrected. The St Peters LQ distant signal was saved by the Tanfield Railway and became Marley Hill starting signal (No 15) if you are familiar with that heritage railway. Thanks too for the splendid photo of the 3 doll signal at St Peters posted by Pinza c55. It is indeed a great shame that you were unable to save such a lovely item for preservation
Re: Riverside Line (North Tyneside) photos ?
The photo shows the former NER LQ St Peters distant signal. Using the post, ladder and fittings it became the Marley Hill starting signal (No 15) on the Tanfield Railway.
