Wasn't there certain section in which No.10000 could not go on because (I think it was) it was too wide.?

This and other photo's has made me think about the GE, bridges etc not allowed to run Pacific's to heavy, then 'ear comes a 'wacking' great W1 pounding up the track, special dispensation and a 5mph speed limit would get it through, but how many bridges are we talking about

Do we have any idea of the provenance? Was it produced by the railway workshops and if so when was it last refurbished - if ever!

How different things were in the thirties. Not a single hi-vis vest visible, and all sorts of media types running over the tracks in long coats and carying cameras and tripods. I used to look at the model as a child growing up in Darlington and my recollection of the model then in Darlington Museum was that it said it had been produced by the Works....but that was nearly 50 years ago and my memory might be a little awry!

I met by chance Bill Brown today at the NRM, who wrote the book on the hush hush loco and remembering this thread I asked him about the colour of the loco, he said that the colour was lead grey with a little bit of black (and only a little bit) plus turpentine and several coats of lacquer. He states that when the LNER were producing a poster of the loco, Gresley sent a memo to the publicity department stating the make up of the colour so they could get it right. This memo is in the NRM.
The green version came about from the art department of a boys comic of the day assuming the loco would be standard LNER green.
Bill said he gave all the info to L. H. Loveless and his model is an exact replica of the livery hush hush carried.
