B1's on the Hull and Barnsley

Post by Tranby1 »

I would appreciate to learn of any known sightings or workings of B1's on the Hull and Barnsley Line, especially the 1940's and 50s'

Back to your mate Bill Carver, I'm reckoning...

Suggest just about any Yorkshire B1 must have visited many times, on all types of workings.

Just finished off a B1 that ran on the H&BR No 61256, it was used in the last weeks of the line to collect stored wood from varoius stations etc.

A good image can be found in The Railways of Hull & East Yorkshire by Michael Thompson, Hutton Press, ISBM 1 872167.

Kings Cross based B1 No. 61394 is photographed on Alexandra Dockin the Railway Memories No.12 The H&BR, ISBN 1 871233 11 9

Another shot in the same book of No. 61303 on J21 pilot duty on the H&B section to Hull Outward Yard Receptions on the NE section.

Another shot shows No.61256 between Drewton & South Cave at Weedley Springs, then another shot at North Cave, then at North Eastrington.

You can use the following website to track down either the locos or what was allocated at the engine sheds by entering eith the loco number or the shed number: http://www.steamsheds.co.uk/home.php I think the Hull SHeds were Dairycoates 53A-50B in 1960 Botanic Gardens 53B up to around 1955, Springhead 53C up to around 1955 or something similar as they changed on certain era's.
look under south Howden Station in the model section of this forum for a picture of my B1

hope this helps
