5151to 75 1250hp was the type two allocation all brand new from Dtn works.
We used these on all types of traffic. for boiler jobs we had some 1160hp class 24s 5109 5110 5113 and so on sometimes we had 5149 and 50.
The Birmingham type tws were the 1250hp version and again no boiler. lovely riding engine.
The EE type threes with Clayton boilers again used on all types of work and the type fours EE version, we never did get the Sulzer four engines D166 to 193 but then built up a fleet of Hawkers 2750hp mainly for main line work freightliners etc. I have seen Thby men working a minerall turn with a type four and main line men strggling with a type two on a heavy parcels turn.Claytons and EE 1000hp engines came along as well.

incidently I went to school(borstal) at claggy foot.
Sorry to here about your education JB, but as kids our mam wouldnt let us past Crosleys claypit let alone over past the tram sheds into Chicargo Fleet, would often go down the 'blacky' past South Bank goods yard with the J72 ferrying vans about, to meet dad on his way home from werk. The 'puddlin' well that was also out of bounds!!!
Mr B .. Any one interested just google Slaggy Island youll find it!
During the war I lived with my aunt and uncle in cross street. but we normally lived in the posh end of doggy.
-all that fresh air from sadlers pitch beds and teesside bridge galvanising plant!-I'm still"cough" here.
my dad werked in the werks at pease and partners and I've walked the blacky from slaggy to redcar, the Gresley twinsets were a brown colour in those days and at school if it wasn't ship drawings it was green engines and 'yellow ochre' coloured coaches always standing at a platform 'cos I didn't know what the coach underframes looked like-like.
Jim Brodie.
Lot's of memories, mam would oftern find us over the fence at Claggy iron works sailing our home made boats in the slimmy green warm waters of the wooden cooling towers, we'd keep an eye out for the gang from Severs St cos they'd pinch our boats! Dad was ships plummer down at 'smithys' and I've attended quite a few launch's, with all the flags and bunting and enjoying the free buffet!!!
Mr B .. Slaggy Island where the sparrows have bronchitis!
The new station at South Bank was built half a mile from the existing station, opened July 1984 with only a couple of trains stopping durring peak periods morning and evening.
With the opening of the new station the old was demolished and a big clean up was under way, to-day the transporter bridge is visible from the site of the new road bridge over the old station site.
About sixty three yrears ago I remember seeing a brand new Wd ex works being worked by the Dtn running in crews on a passenger from saltburn to Dtn just left cargo fleet station working towards Guis Jct running tank first-in those days as well as the westinghouse the front(and back) ends used to have steam heater pipes fitted.
hope it jogs a few momories.

Class J39 enters Redcar Central with a homeward bound race day special on Bank Holiday Monday 1952.
Please feel free to submit your photos of the Saltburn branch.
Thanks Brooklad at least some one is reading these pages, reconize the view point as Black Bridge near Redcar station.
A couple of Bank Holiday Monday excursions entering Saltburn....
mr b
where was the ECS of excursions temporarily stored and where were locos turned? saltburn looks the obvious option, but would big locos be able to fit on its 50'0" turntable?
Hi Brooklad, locos usualy coupled together ran up to the tri-angle at North Skelton, then when 51k went should they require service it was a trip to Thornaby and they got turned as well. Stock would be held in Jubbilee sidings Saltburn, or the sidings at Tofts half way to Marske. Redcar race day traffic was held in the sidings around Redcar, you can imagine a bank holliday with both races and excursions!
