Ordnance Survey for 1914 has a Greenesfield House and Greenesfield Street in that area of Gateshead.

Correct, now the old Greenesfield House opp the depot over Askew Rd on Mulgrave Terr was the location of Sir Vincent Ravens office.
I have tried in vain with Gateshead Council to have a blue plaque erected on his former house in Cambridge Terrace, Gateshead. its very sad that there is no reference anywhere of Gatesheads railway heritage recognised by Gateshead Council, they would rather pander to a South African who has no N.E. connections what so ever but thats a Labour council for you.

I went to a talk about the HLB refurbishment last week in the old St Marys church. Lots of info in there about Gateshead history but nothing about how much influence railways had on the town. Perhaps they are still miffed about the moving of the works to Darlington.

Great memories 52A! 60007 later worked the 13.30 ex N/cle up Glasgow 1A39, that day. One of the last Newcastle -K/X through steam diagrams on Saturdays. 61435,the B16 looks very smart. Must have been one of the last of class to have gone through works -if not the last. The V2 60806 is probably on its way back L/E to Darlington as steam facilities at Gateshead had been withdrawn by that date and main line steam working in was returned as quickly as possible.

Drawing dated 1951 (in 6 parts) which I rescued from a dustbin. The laundry is now the site of the Tyneside IECC. There are also further variations in spelling!

I have seen these drawings before in several large folders of old "parchment" drawings in the old Borough engineers office above the library in Swinburne St. I wonder if they were disposed of when the engineers moved up to the new Civic in early 80s?,there were several skips full of old written material, ledgers, slum clearance documents, sewerage plans etc from the engineers and the police station around the back lane of the library.
We found an old leather pouch behind one of the old cabinets, it was full of "Poor Law" money in Farthings & Halfpennies, a sort of 19th century giro.
What was the purpose of an Admiralty establishment in the depot complex, was it the original R.N.V.R. before Calliope ?

There was an extensive two part article about 52A in "British Railways Illustrated" Vol. 13 No. 12 and Vol. 14 No. 1 (Sept./ Oct. 2004). Vol. 13 No. 12 (but not the other one unfortunately) can still be ordered from http://www.irwellpress.com/acatalog/MAGAZINES.html

Thanks Bill,
I got straight on to the link and have ordered the magazine still available from Irwell. I also found a "Gateshead in Colour" in a BRILL from the following year so good advice.
I've also tracked down a copy of the one Irwell don't have.
Thanks very much.

It might be a bit of a cheek but I thought I'd raise the profile of my previous request, in the hope that it might catch the attention of someone who might have a scrap of information or photograph to fill a gap in my research.
I'm still track building and I'm trying to devise a method for building the crossing at the east end of the shed. Once this is done, it won't be long before I get on to the structures.
Anyway, the information and especially the photgraphs recieved to date deserve another airing.
So, have a look any if you have anything which you think might help my project, I'd be very grateful.
