It's a source of wonder to me that the citizens of Saltburn allowed their station to be trashed so completely

The main reason to use the special platform waiting room as the den was because previous they had demollished the Brine Baths on Dundas St, thanks to the 'new' Langbaurh elect council. Over the past few years SLUG (Saltburn Line Users Group) has been formed in a bid to promote and improve services on the line and it seems to be working, also Saltburn Railtours run a annual excursion this year they are heading for North Wales including Snowdon Mountain Rly.

Back to the Boro, Dock Hill this time with J27 about to leave, winter 1963. Dock Hill controlled the goods lines, Middlesbrough East controlling passenger movements from Sussex St crossing to Whitehouse (Cargo Fleet),and the Whitby branch to North Ormsby.

Don't forget there was the original S&D line from Darlington to Oak Tree junction near Dinsdale. Here is a photo of Lingfield Lane Level Crossing in Darlington.
Also at Fighting Cocks there was Arnott and Youngs scrapyard that was busy in the sixties.- 52D

Excellent but sad shot, the last K1 i ever saw apart from 62005.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
The line went through Warrenby, and over Fishermans crossing. Durring the 1980's the line was diverted over Coatham Marsh thus avoiding Warrenby and rejoining in the proximity of Warrenby Halt.
Mr B .
Just to make sure the track work was carried out as per plans the 'big' boys turned up to inspect, their saloon is seen parked in the siding at Thrush Road, Redcar. Mr B .

On 29.11.1979 I visited Fighting Cocks station and saw the main building and the S&DR waiting shelter which I think has gone now.The "RAMPS" sign indicates that rerailing ramps are available here.

67682 leaving Redcer Central with the evening parcels, in later years a CCT was attached to an evening DMU service train.

An NER habit the Alnwick Parcels from the toon was DMU hauled in later years. I can remember boxes of fishing rods from Greys and Hardys being a regular cargo from Alnwick to all points starting on the parcels train.mr B wrote:67682 leaving Redcer Central with the evening parcels, in later years a CCT was attached to an evening DMU service train.

I can remember seeing Alnwick DMUs pulling vans on the ECML and wondering how they shunted them on arrival. I think it happened on the Alston branch as well.

I was thinking more of what happened at Alnwick.third-rail wrote:i take it that the newcastle central sta pilot/shunter took it to manors.Percy Main wrote:I can remember seeing Alnwick DMUs pulling vans on the ECML and wondering how they shunted them on arrival. Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
Only if 2 drivers(sorry motormen!) were on board with each using the magic handle when it was his turn, they only went forwards.third-rail wrote:Percy Main wrote:I can remember seeing Alnwick DMUs pulling vans did the 101s not have have a forward / reverse switch

Regarding the parcel van DMU's, Saltburn branch would run 101 motor unit and a CCT down and the following day couple to the early service and head up to Darlington as no turn round at Saltburn, hence they never ran backwards unless fitted with another cab.
