Finaly got to Shildon yesterday (28th) and saw Tornado in green, last time it was in grey. Shildon was dead as normal and to make it worse they where holding a art exibition. Mr B
Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
Also at Shildon was this little fell'a, this time without a name !
Not much movement at Bank Top, whilst passing North Road the doors were wide open and 78018 was looking well.
Mr B .. Any one explain why 156's on Esk valley to Whitby and 142's slog it out on Saltburn branch ?

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
I prefer the J72 un named but i wish she was in colours more befitting her. Although the Station Pilot colours suit her i would like to see her in British Railways black.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
The only bit of the branch I have not done is the last bit into Saltburn station.
We turned right and went up the hill to Boulby instead.

Well Bryan I'm sure we'll get there soon, some of my old Gratispool prints are still scan-able ! We may even be lucky enough to view others photos, I'm supprized that some of our southern members have'nt travelled this far on excursions, they seem to get every where else !

Warrenby Halt, built in the good old days for the local steel works later loosing the 'Halt', with the builing of Redcar Bos plant the 'Halt' got refurbished ( if thats what we call it ), the old platforms got re-placed with new ones and the old Warrenby Halt ended up on the North Yorks Moors Rly as Newtondale, so you could say part of British Steel( Dorman Long ) lives on.

Bank Holiday Monday once again and all the day trippers awaiting the train home after a seaside break, 1952 with class A5 and a rare assortment of stock, and I bet you did'nt know Redcar Central wore a canopy ?

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
Looking towards the future of the branch, the proposed Tees Valley Metro has started and the new bridge and track over the Tees at Thornaby is getting laid. Running from Hartlepool, Billingham,Stockton and eventualy reaching Saltburn. New stations are planned for James Cook Hospital and Durham Teesside Airport, also the re-opening of platform 3 at Middlesbrough. All this is to be up and running by 2013.
Mr B .. Laughing to myself as I type!
Also promissed that rid the line of 142's introduce re-furbished 156's and for 2015 new 172's. Mr B .. Laughing to myself as I type!

Re: Darlington Saltburn branch
Brings back memory's Pinza, it was our den when we where kids, bit later in life we'd take the lasses to the empty coaching stock parked on Jubilee sidings, keeping an eye open for Saltburn Wests signalman. The carrage locks were a doddle, as one of the lads dad had a Bond and the bonnet/boot lock key was simller !
