hyspen drifter. Of your Jubilees 45646 came to Darlington after withdrawal, though I'm unsure whether it was actually cut up there. It did definitely appear on the works Line of 51A and I saw it ,one of only two Jubilees I personally remember coming there after withdrawal, the other being 45597.
45695 was withdrawn after a high speed derailment on the Liverpool -York mail in around late 1963. Hope this may be of some little help.

Thanks Stembok for the Info. I was told that 5646 Napier was Indeed cut up at Darlington and you are correct 5695 Minotaur did come to grief on that job. The more I find out about these four locos the more interesting it becomes ! They seem to in the main to have been very "Territorial" locos working in the main from east to west, with odd trips to the seaside in the summer, also used on Bradford to Poole job on summer saturdays as far as Nottingham . Certainly 5581 Bihar & Orissa was known to have been borrowed towards the end of her career by Gateshead for passing out footplatemen.

hyspen drifter: The Farnley Jubilees did seem to spend most of their lives running between Yorkshire and Lancashire on the mails and cross country trains. Pity about 45695 as she had fairly recently been outshopped when she came to grief. A photo appeared in one of the mags of her in the Fells on the WCML in summer 1963 on a down express, immaculate and probably borrowed by Crewe North immediately after being outshopped.
Jubilee 45675 also appeared on the engine crew passing out trips to Newcastle, as did York's 60831.

Oi you lot this is supposed to be an LNER discussion group. :D
Seriously as a youngster in the fifties I used to wonder why a little shed like Farnley had those Jubilees, when they could have lived a couple of miles down the road at Holbeck.
Is there a historical reason here.

37b: the reason was probably indeed historical, found originally in the pre-grouping parentage of the depot. The rationalisation of the Leeds area motive power depots in the 1960s and the welding together of various shed links from different depots was a very large, complicated and time consuming task with all the varying seniorities, route knowledge etc.

Thought I may have opened a cage of Budgies here ! Farnley was a L.N.W.R depot and Holbeck a Midland one and all the rivalry that went with it ! Farnley was also host to Holbecks stored A3s at the end of their lives. It also came under the "Wing" of the North Eastern Region being coded 55C.

I doubt Holbeck had the spare capacity to absorb Farnley's duties until maybe the 1960s, by which time perhaps Holbeck had enough to cope with as main-line diesels arrived there. Remember (1) Stourton had to be built because of lack of space at Holbeck and (2) the LMS would have consolidated if they could.
