English Electric Type 1 - BR crest

Post by chaz harrison »

Have just taken delivery of a Heljan 7mm model of an EE type 1. (Blue era fans will call this a class 20). It's a Tower Models limited edition, in green with no yellow ends. Interestingly it has the type of BR crest usually used on coaching stock. I have seen photographs of these diesels with this type of crest, but many of the pictures of these locos in early days at "The Park" show them with the earlier BR totem. Can anyone tell me when the crest changed or was it just the later machines that were so treated?

I remember seeing both types of crests on EE TYPE2s on 61A in the mid' 60's (on or about the same time as Bittern was stored there.

Thanks for that Ken. I won't change the totems just yet!
