A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

I enjoyed watching this film when it was first shown so I read up about it. Apparently, old French railwaymen recounted to the film makers the tricks they got up to in order to delay trains and annoy the Germans. A similar story was told me by a former POW whom the Germans had put to work on a narow-gauge line which formed the only public transport in a German city which was being bombed every night. The Germans, having no sense of humour, would go berserk at these incidents, but the POWs, being former railwaymen, were able to make them look like accidents to those who weren't.
