Following further research and living quite near this crash site can any one tell me what locos were involved http://www.chrishobbs.com/beightonraildisaster1942.htm
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

From conversations heard in the mess room in later years.

It would seem that although the death rate was said to be 14, I understnd it was much higher.
Plus the injuries added to many more who were disabled through them

The steel plate which had been displaced obviously by rough shunting, cut through the coaches at floor level causing lower leg amputations and such.

This is only gossip as I said in the mess room from one days conversation about this accident so take it or leave it.

Sorry, no info on loco's numbers but the driver mentioned in the article I belive was a Darnall driver, the one on the goods the other way at the time.

Thanks Morgan an accident though little heard of surely must have been horrific for those involved and lucky for the men who jumped down onto the track when a mineral train was coming.
