Film - Train of Events
Just watching this again for the umpteenth time, now with the aid of a CD. I'm sure a lot of you will have seen this lovely film and it's about as accurate in railway operating terms as you're ever going to get (although why they make mention of 'Old Lizzie' at The Brent is beyond me, it was only a standard LMS 0-6-0 tankie, and not that old - then - plus why Willesden, definitely socially inferior to Camden, like Hornsey v Kings X, should merit a prestige Liverpool lodging turn with a Scot). Freeze framing, anyway, shows that Driver Ted Hardcastle, in his kitchen, has a picture of a LNER P2 engine - Cock of the North? - on the wall, above some whiskery looking chap. Could it be that Willesden Loco had a Gresleyite in its midst? Too late to ask anyone now, I'm afraid.
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Yes I've seen that film more than once but never really noticed the fine details. The film I'd like to see again is the one about the GWR driver who goes mad on the footplate and misses all his booked stops (mind you, having to drive engines from the wrong side must be a bit weird). It's supposed to be a thriller but the railway details are laughable and better suited to a Will Hay film.

Think you may mean this one:

Some of the old drivers were, shall we say, not noted for their cheery disposition..

Yes that's the one. I couldn't remember the title. Driver Holt must have been in a foul mood to make his engine (Castle 5004) slip like that, a very rare happening at Paddington. At the end of the journey his train nearly ends up in the harbour somewhere, Plymouth Millbay possibly?

And to doubly confirm, imdb.com lists the film as "The Last Journey (1936)".
