(why would you need a K-3 and RA7 locos to run between Cambridge and Shelford only - war time air bases?)
I must be getting old! Shelford is on the Cambridge main line and the junction for the former route to Marks Tey. Of course there would be a change to the RA

Re J27s on the GE. In 1926 ten of the superheated engines were transferred to the Great Eastern section, working from March and Cambridge; these engines remained in the southern area at various sheds until returned to thier home territory in 1940 - 42. Meanwhile, five saturated J27s and J26 No 379(later 65760) were also loaned to the GE section in 1927 - 28.

Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.
Thank you for the information regarding the Class J-27s and I'll up-date my 4mm Modelling document on the GERS web site.
I can understand the use of the J-27s on the GN&GE Joint line and say coal traffic south from March/Cambridge to London, but is there any mention in the book of the class being allocated to say Ipswich shed, which would explain the inclusion of the note regarding the Framlingham branch?

PS does anyone produce a 4mm kit of a J-27?
Hi Paul if you go here and scroll down to bottom of the page you will find out who manufactures what and in a particular scale. Richard has done it for all the LNER locos on the list. http://www.lner.info/locos/J/j27.shtml
The information i quoted you was directly taken from the Magazine and that was all it said, I also looked for photos to scan but no joy.

Class J-27 in East Anglia. I haven't a copy of the RCTS vol which covers the class nor Yeadons (has the class been covered yet?). Can anyone advise if either book mentions workings of the class in East Anglia and in particular working/allocated to Ipswich?
