NYMR LNER Gala 2008

Would there be any interest in some of the photographs I took at NYMR LNER Gala last year? Or has someone else got there first and you are all satiated?

OK then, you will note that I didn't take much persuading....

We (I went with two friends) travelled up from Hampshire on Friday 28th March. Having found our hotel we went to Pickering Station to see what was running. Glad we did because we were in time to see No 9 arrive at the head of the teak rake.

I opened up the picture of 19, the first coach behind 'Bittern' looks a bit 'bent' or is it my wonky eye's? Great pic though

Isn't that coach an observation car or a special saloon? I thought the Moors had one that looked a little different that is usually on the end of a rake.

Its GNR Invalid saloon 3087, built at Doncaster in 1909.

Shhh--------------it's a Gresley 4-8-2 that was never built but rebuilt by Thompson, before it was built,because he knew he could build a better rebuilt, did you get that, well your not getting it back so here's another view.

Nothing wrong with your eyes Manna, the coach does look bowed when viewed obliquely, because it is! It was very obvious when standing along side the rake.
Today's snap was taken from the train (grotty Mk 1s in blue) as the NER 0-8-0 climbed away from Pickering. I was rather spoilt by riding in the Gresley teaks which are wonderful inside.

Chaz, a nice atmospheric pic, is that frost I see on the ground?
The Pichi Richi Railway is 3'6" gauge and was at one time part of the mainline to Alice Springs, it now runs from Quorn to Port Augusta, about 35miles, they have the only working steam railmotor(like the ones the GNR had) in the world.(look up Pichi Richi Railway on Google)

No, not snow Gaz, it was a sharp start to the day. My visit was to the first weekend, a fortunate choice as I understand that some of the locos were unavailable on the second.

So we are all A4 fans are we? Nothing wrong with that!

Sunday evening and engines are returning to the shed. No 7 reverses in to join No 19.

I often try to avoid people in shots, but I think the loitering bloke gives a nice sense of scale. Picture taken from the viewing point in Grosmont shed.
